Rhea sat in a hospital, reading an old file she'd inherited from Inspector Randall Farmer. A file 42 years old, a missing persons case, back from the days of the Crackdown. It had been kept open, as a deal to Crusader in return for being the first major hero to register. Inspector Farmer, and Rhea's dad, had both looked into the case every now and then. She'd kept the file around, but never really done anything with it, since Crusader had retired.
And then, suddenly, it had kinda solved itself. Some prospectors found something weird in an old mineshaft in the Cheese, and they called the BNPD. The BNPD had called the MCD, and that was when Rhea had gotten involved. Rhea had only just arrived at the hospital in Killian where they were keeping her, but she knew exactly who to call. Knowing him, he'd probably be here in minutes.

Liana had been lying in a hospital bed for the past few days now, having had difficulties moving around since she was awoken from her deep sleep. On top of that, her body had to readjust to properly functioning, but thankfully she had been treated fairly well by he hospital staff while they tried to figure out who she was, so everything was all right in her book... at least until the hospital staff informed her that an MCD official was coming to see her. She tensed up, but try as she might, she couldn't leave the bed in her current condition.
So when the woman entered her room, she tried to keep her hands hidden, away from her or anyone else so she didn't accidentally do what she had done to so many others in the past...

Rhea stood in the doorway, holding the file. She didn't say anything, simply dialing on her phone. "Is this Stanislaus Rennec?"
Stan and Michael were in Killian. Michael had some vacation days, so they were taking a little father-son outing. At least, up until his phone rang. It wasn't a number he recognized, but he answered anyway. "Is this Stanislaus Rennec?"
"Uh, yes. Yes it is. Who is this?"
"My name is Inspector Rhiannon Stone. I'm with the MCD."
"Oh, did you want to speak with Michael?" Michael perked up.
"No, no, I wanted to speak with you. There's been a development." Stan stopped. "We've found Liana Cheung. She's here, in Killian General."
Stan hung up and started running. "Dad? Dad, where are you going?" Michael rolled his eyes, chasing after his father, adjusting the backpack he was keeping his suit in.

The moment Rhea mentioned Stan, Liana perked up. "Excuse me, did you just say Sanislaus Rennec?" she asked her as the officer put away the strange device she was holding. "Is he really on his way here?" More importantly, what do they mean "found?" Stan was informed of what happened to her... right?

"He should be here in a few minutes. I wanted a familiar face to be the one to tell you." Rhea saw the look on Liana's face. This was going to end... poorly. She just knew it. She clutched the folder in her hand tighter, the only thing making it special the "Missing Persons" stamp on the front.
Stan busted through the front door of Killian General. "LIANA!" He roared, probably loud enough for everyone in the hospital to hear. Michael ducked around his legs and walked up to the possibly traumatized receptionist.
"Which room would Liana Cheung be in? Most likely the one with MCD people in it?" Michael asked.
"Room 322." The receptionist said.
"Thank you." Michael relayed the information to Stan, who took off running again, blowing past some onlookers. Michael tried his best to keep pace.

"O-Oh... I see..." she said, looking down after seeing the "Missing Persons" stamp on the front. "Ms. Stone, was it? Before he gets here... can you hand me my gloves? Hospital staff took them off while I was resting, and if things don't go well..." She shook her head. "I don't want to hurt anyone..."

"Of cour-" Rhea started before all 7 feet of Stan Rennec barreled past her, knocking her off of her feet. Michael helped her back up.
"LIANA!" Stan dropped to his knees next to the bed, immediately dragging her into a bearhug roughly the size of the moon. Michael and Rhea tried to negotiate their way around Stan and put Liana's gloves on for her.

Liana practically gagged as the man held her in such a tight hug. It was really getting hard to breathe, and she was pretty sure it was the the bear hug rather than her ending up changing the air in the room or something like that. "S-Stan...?"" she asked, trying not to push him off her until the gloves were snugly around her hands.

"Uh, hey, Dad, I think you're hurting her." Michael tried to push his father away from Liana. The moment Michael mentioned hurting Liana, Stan disengaged, keeping his hands on Liana's shoulders. It was obvious how hard Stan was trying (and failing) not to cry.
"I...I lost you...I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." He just kept repeating, over and over.

Liana took several deep breaths before speaking with him. Though he looked much, much older than she had remembered him ever being, there was no mistaking the man as Stan Rennec. "Stan... what happened?" she asked him with a concerned look. Why was he apologizing so much, anyway?

"Dad..." Michael put a hand on Stan's shoulder, before looking at Liana. "The year is 2016. You've been missing for 42 years, and he's been searching for you every single day."
"Please... please forgive me... I failed..." Stan managed to breathe through heaving sobs, his grip on Liana's shoulders growing a bit tighter.

"Forty..." she started to say before laying back. "F-Forty two years... But I thought... Dr. Stoyer, did he not tell you that I was being kept in stasis all these years? Surely he must have told you, he gave me his word!" she explained.

"STOYER!?" Stan's head snapped up and he made eye contact with Liana. "Stoyer did this to you? I knew he did something. I swear, I'll kill him if he's not already dead."
"Dad!" Michael's sudden tone caused Stan to jump. It seemed it also caused him to realize what he'd just said, and his head dropped again.

"Stoyer was the one who arranged it, yes..." she told him. "He said that keeping me in stasis would be for the best, as they were too limited in their technology to help control my powers, rather than to contain it..." she explained to him. "I thought it would be what was best... I want to do good with them, but I don't know how..."

"I... I could have kept you safe... We could have found a solution together..." Stan sunk lower.
"If I might ask, what exactly CAN you do?" Michael stepped a little closer. "I might be able to find your solution." Stan perked up, looking at his son.
"Yes! Yes, we could!" Stan's face turned into a picture of happiness.

"Um.... Dr. Stoyer explained it as 'transmutation'? I can turn things into other things with just a thought, if I could control it..." she told him. "Granted, the last few times they've been used, the results were... well."

"Hrm." Michael stared at Liana's hands, at the gloves she was wearing more specifically. His brain was operating at a mile a minute.
"Maybe you could work with Michael!" Stan brightened even further. Michael's eyes widened.
"Uh, Dad. There are civilians in the room. Could you not?"

Liana's eyes widened as well, before she shook her head. "B-Before we start planning out how to do this, I believe I need to know exactly what has happened in the past forty-two years!" she told them both. "It seems I missed out on a lot..."

Stan's expression dropped again. "Yes. Yes, I suppose you have."
"I can leave, if you want to get her caught up in privacy." Michael gestured to the door. Stan motioned for him to stop.
"I want you here." Stan moved his hand from Liana's shoulder and grabbed her hand. He took a deep breath, and told the story, leaving out that he had killed Fearchild. The entire time, Michael continued staring at Liana's hands, thinking.

Liana laid back and listened as Stan began to recount everything that had happened after she had been frozen, by the end of it practically in tears. In part because of what she did, Stan ended up retiring from hero work, something that he loved doing more than anything else. "Stan... I'm so sorry..." she said, looking down. "If I had known, I wouldn't have..."
