Civilian Info
Name: Stanislaus Rennec
Age: 62
Sex: Male
Alignment: Lawful Good
Occupation: Retiree
Face Claim: Zuichou Nanbara (AliveZ)
Physical Description: Stan is a monster of a man. He stands 7' 1" and weighs 300+ pounds, every single ounce of it meta muscle. His hair is a rather dignified white, and it's much, much longer than it used to be, upper back length. He usually keeps it pulled back into a ponytail. He also has a full beard, the same white as the rest of him. He usually wears loose-fitting clothing, a white button-up shirt, dark jeans, and combat boots. He prefers suspenders to belts.
Personality: Stan is a bygone champion of a bygone era. He believes in the old way, valor and justice and defending those who cannot defend themselves. He loves the work he does. And he takes it very hard if he fails, or believes he fails. He's mourned what he believes to be one of his greatest failures, the disappearance of Liana Cheung, for 42 years now. This, combined with every other time he's not been able to save someone up until the death of his wife, were what eventually led him to retire. He's very hard on himself, but he honestly believes that doing so makes him a better person and a better hero, the hero that the people really deserve.
He's a very... big, person. He doesn't have a mute button or a volume switch at all, really. He speaks very loudly even when he's trying to be quiet and really doesn't have any concept of tact. He also becomes very emotionally involved with people very quickly. Marianne was his only romantic love, but he abuses the concept of platonic love with effectively everyone else he meets and gets to know. It's part of why he takes it so hard when he loses them.

History: Stanislaus Rennec was born in Germany, moving to Bareillia with his parents when he was 3. He always was a protector of sorts, especially when he got a younger brother, Felix. Stan first began to realize he wasn't quite like other kids when, while defending Felix from a bully, he threw the bully a good ten feet. Luckily, the bully wasn't injured, but the message had been sent and no one messed with the Rennec kids. Around that time, Stan began following the exploits of the local superheroes, namely a hero by the name of Blaze. Realizing he had powers, Stan began planning what sort of superhero he would grow up to be.
When Stan was 8, the BNPD publicly announced plans to begin arresting all individuals with powers, heroes and villains alike. By this point, Stan's parents knew he had these sorts of powers, so they began telling him to keep them a secret. He agreed with them, for 7 years. When Stan was 15, he turned on the news and saw that Blaze had been arrested, to be thrown in jail with the rest of the villains he had stopped. This was the moment when Stan snapped. He immediately went to a junkyard and made himself a crude set of armor, beginning to operate as Crusader.
Crusader became a symbol, the proof that the BNPD needed that heroes and villains were not the same. He worked to apprehend criminals of all kinds, both mundane and meta, but never engaged with the police. With the help of a few supporters, Stan managed to get himself an actual set of armor instead of something cobbled together from scrap metal, and became a true symbol. Fairly soon, he had one of the two encounters that would change his life forever. Based on reports of a powerful villain, he crashed his way through the wall, as was his style, only to be confronted by a girl that he had just scared out of her mind. That girl was Liana Cheung, and she was the first person Crusader revealed his identity to.
Stan took off his helmet and sat with her, talking her down from the metaphorical ledge. He "adopted" her, and kept her safe to the absolute best of his ability. He homeschooled her with his own schoolwork, he fed her with his own money, earned from a part-time job at a supermarket, he did everything he could to keep her safe. Until one day, four years later, she vanished. His only link was a man named Erich Stoyer, who had said she was missing, presumed dead. Crusader searched for her, until the day he was contacted by a man named Randall Farmer. Inspector Farmer was the first Chief Inspector of the newly-created Metahuman Control Department. Heavy though his doubts were, Crusader soon became the first properly licensed hero with the MCD, on the condition that the case of Liana Cheung be kept open.
Almost a decade later, Stan, while working as a blacksmith in Contega, met Marianne Lucas, the daughter of the factory owner. They married 3 years later, and 3 years after that, she gave him a son, Michael. Marianne, of course, knew Stan was Crusader and fully supported his activities as a hero. Michael learned when he was old enough to know, and proceeded to idolize his father even further. Life was good, but Stan still kept a picture of him and Liana in his wallet. Every year, he called Inspector Farmer, to see if any developments were made in finding Liana. Every year, nothing.
And then everything went wrong, the second encounter that would change Stan's life. When Michael was 8, Stan met with a new enemy, a powerful magician calling him Fearchild. Fearchild quickly became Stan's archnemesis of sorts, and they fought for almost two years, until finally Fearchild had had enough. Using his magic, he determined Stan's identity, and went to his home while Stan was off fighting a threat Fearchild had organized, and killed Marianne, making sure to make it painful. Fearchild later became the only man Stan would kill, and doing so caused Stan finally to retire from being a hero. He'd been operating for almost 30 years by this point, and it had taken from him the greatest joy of his life.
Stan threw himself into his work and his son, doing everything he could to raise Michael as best he could on his own. He would attend all of his rehearsals, and paid Michael's way through college at Lansing, where Michael would later make the first breakthroughs that would later lead to the HAIF system. With Stan's blessing, Michael became the second Crusader, carrying on the legacy and avenging the death of his mother. Stan later retired from his other job, and is currently living with Michael. He still tries to train every now and then, but he's a little out of practice. He still has his armor, though. He's insisted that Michael keep it maintained.
