"One minute, tops. My office is quite efficient." Larkin replied, glancing back to Lanius. "We'll have your language files shortly. Wait here for the moment." Hopefully, this wouldn't take too long.

Rhea wasn't able to hide her surprise in time. She was a little impressed, actually. She overestimated this portly guy and his poorly tailored suit.

A short minute later, Larkin's phone bleeped. He checked it and smiled. "Language files just came through. Just give me a moment." Cautiously, he stepped towards Lanius and offered him his phone.
Lanius accepted Larkin's phone and tugged a thin piece of wire out of his neck. Plugging it into the phone, the wire flashed red and he slowly inserted it back into his neck. For a moment, he looked uncomfortable, like he'd swallowed a bitter pill.
"Language processed and understood," he said in a language that everyone present could understand. "Thank you, native," he added as he returned Larkin's phone.

"That is... a little disconcerting." Rhea muttered, before stepping in front of Larkin. "My name is Rhiannon Stone. Do you have a title you would prefer I use?"

Larkin backed away, seeing that his work here was done.
"My official title is Ranger, Rhiannon Stone," Lanius replied, rubbing at his neck. The implant always got a little uncomfortable after he updated it. "You can call me by my name, if it makes you more comfortable."

"Very well then, Ranger Epoch." Rhea said. "Most people here call me Inspector Stone. What exactly is your purpose here?"

"My purpose is to patrol this galactic sector and curb any lawlessness conducted by its natives," Lanius explained. "My scans determined Earth to be the most inhabited planet in this sector, which is why I landed here."

"Understood. We have our own law enforcement structures in place, but we would appreciate the help in extraterrestrial spaces." They didn't have any space cops. Hell, she didn't even know space crime was an issue. At least they were getting one.

"I'm glad we've reached an understanding," Lanius said. "I'll be using my ship as a base, but I'll occasionally need to liaison with your people if something affects your planet."

"Of course. Although we would prefer you not just land in the city next time. Is there a way you could contact us?" Rhea doubted it could simply call her cell phone, much like all of her other superhero partners.

"There is." Lanius reached into a pouch at his belt and withdrew what looked like a thin sheet of glass, about as big as a cell phone. He offered it to Rhea. "This is linked up to my comms and can transmit through space."

Rhea accepted it, examining it for a moment. "Alright then. We appreciate the help, Ranger Epoch. If you feel it necessary, you may contact us." She nodded to him, a gesture of respect, before tucking the glass comm into her jacket pocket.

"Excellent. Now that the formalities are out of the way, I shall need to familiarise myself with this planet." Lanius picked up his ion blaster and helmet, putting them both back on. "Standard procedure, of course."

Lanius walked past the group of police and into town, unconcerned with his overall appearance. It was time to learn more about this strange planet.
